Spam and viruses use texting and instant messenger services to reach their targets. However, both services aren’t impervious to phishing scams and other malicious attacks. Instant messenger programs require a username and password, providing more security and privacy. Security #īecause texting is tied to a mobile phone number, there are no login screens, so anybody using your phone can send, receive and look at your texts. If you use instant messengers on your smartphone, you’re charged for data use unless your plan includes unlimited data or if you are using Wi-Fi. Most instant messaging services are free to use, with the costs offset by advertising. Mobile carriers offer unlimited texting plans as well as other plans that charge by the text message or put a cap on how many texts can be sent and received in a billing cycle. Transmission Costs #īecause texting is a phone service, you pay your mobile provider for the service. Facebook Messenger, for example can send and receive SMS text messages as well as its own proprietary instant messages. Rather than download a messaging program for each service, you may want to use a multiprotocol instant messaging client that gives you access to several messaging protocols at once. On the other hand, instant messaging typically requires you and your contacts to use the same messaging service to communicate, like Yahoo Messages, WhatsApp, or Twitter direct messages. In other words, you can send texts to people who don’t share the same operating system or software. Texts can be sent between any two individuals who pay for the service. But you can install an instant messaging app and use your smartphone to send IMs while away from your computer. Instant messaging started on computer networks. This is accomplished by installing an SMS app on the computer, which uses your cell phone number and cellular service to text your contacts. However, computers can also send and receive text messages. Because of this, smartphones and traditional mobile phones are the most common devices people send texts from. Text messages use cellular service to transmit data in a similar fashion to making a phone call. Therefore, mercury concentration needs to be reduced in coastal areas. From the simulation results, the concentration of mercury at 23.3 percent and exposure time of 21.3 % were the most influential and dominant factors in non-cancer risk for adults and children, respectively. Additionally, the Monte Carlo simulation model revealed that the non-carcinogenic risk caused by mercury exposure in adults and children was greater than 1 (Total Hazard Index>1), indicating the health adverse effects for both receptors. Furthermore, polymer sulfur was used as a promising technique for capturing and reducing the level of mercury in the water column.įINDINGS: The results showed that the mean concentration of mercury was very high and exceeded the values established by the World Health Organization, United States of Environmental Protection Agency, and Indonesian National Standards, indicating elevated risks to the ecosystem and human health in the future. The uncertainty and sensitivity tests for independent variables in human health risk were assessed by the Monte Carlo Simulation method. Ecological and human health risks were assessed using established assessment methods by the United States Environmental Protection Agency. METHODS: A total of fifteen water samples were obtained from the coastal areas of Makassar and were analyzed using cold vapor atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Therefore, this study aims to 1) assess the ecological and human health risk of mercury contamination in coastal water 2) analyze the effectiveness of polymer sulfur as an absorbent for mercury. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: The increasing population and anthropogenic activities in coastal areas affects the presence of mercury in coastal waters. Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will invest $5.8 million to improve more than 1.5 miles of M-25 (Pine Grove Avenue) from Hancock Street to M-136 in the city of Port Huron and Fort Gratiot Township. M-25 Improvement Project in Port Huron and Fort Gratiot Township When those closures are scheduled by the contractor, the dates and detour routes will be announced.ĭespite experiencing delays in 2021, MDOT and its contractors anticipate having a majority of the work completed this year and all lanes of I-94, Portage Road and Kilgore Road reopened in December 2022. There also will be a 24-day total closure of Kilgore Road. There will be short-duration total closures of Portage Road for I-94 bridge demolition and later to set bridge beams. Two-way traffic will be maintained on each of those roads with a traffic shift, but motorists should expect congestion and delays, particularly during peak travel times. Work in 2022 also will include rebuilding Portage Road from Airview Boulevard to Bloomfield Avenue, and Kilgore Road west of Portage Road. Two lanes of traffic will be open on I-94 in each direction during this stage of the project, and detours for ramp closures will be posted. Work for the next couple months will focus on the median (drainage, new median barriers, and shoulder work) in preparation for shifting westbound traffic over to the eastbound lanes around June 1 as crews begin rebuilding westbound I-94 between Sprinkle Road and Lovers Lane, as well as several ramps at the Portage Road and Sprinkle Road interchanges: Portage Road to westbound I-94, westbound I-94 to Portage Road, and Sprinkle Road to westbound I-94. A video explaining the project is available on MDOT’s YouTube channel. The $87 million investment connects several I-94 expansion projects from west of US-131 to Sprinkle Road completed since 2008. The Portage Road interchange is being rebuilt with a single-point urban interchange, realigning Kilgore Road at Portage Road. This is the second year of work on the two-year project to widen 2.7 miles of I-94 from four to six lanes between Lovers Lane and Sprinkle Road in Kalamazoo. MDOT will be moving to the next phase of I-94 expansion in Kalamazoo starting April 9 as crews begin moving eastbound traffic onto the newly built lanes between Lovers Lane and Sprinkle Road. (MDOT) Other Projects Announced by Whitmer: 31 and territorial road bridges over I-94. Work will start next Monday, April 4, with crews sealing the new U.S. The website offers the public a living source of information, providing updates, project background and milestones, and other vital information. With such a storied history and detailed project, people are encouraged to visit the US-31/I-94 Connector StoryMap, created by the MDOT Southwest Region GIS unit to provide an overview of the project’s history and preview the stages of the project from design to completion. The southbound I-196 ramp to eastbound I-94 will be detoured from southbound I-196 to Red Arrow Highway Exit 1, east to M-140, then south to I-94. The eastbound I-94 ramp to northbound I-196 will be detoured on eastbound I-94 to M-140 Watervliet Exit 41, then back onto westbound I-94 to northbound I-196. The closures are expected to start Friday, April 15. This year’s work will include completing the I-94 BL interchange with I-94, which will require closing and detouring the eastbound I-94 ramps to northbound I-196, and from southbound I-196 to eastbound I-94. More information on this project from the Michigan Executive Office of the Governor:Ĭrews will continue work to complete 1.8 miles of new US-31 lanes and the connection to I-94. The work is expected to be completed by mid-November. Throughout this work, two lanes will be open in each direction on I-94. The following week on Monday, April 11, I-94 traffic will be shifted onto the westbound lanes to allow crews to rebuild 3.5 miles of eastbound I-94 from Britain Avenue to east of I-196. There will be nighttime double-lane closures on I-94 for a week to complete this work. 31 to I-94, rebuild I-94 Business Loop (BL) (Main Street) and the I-196/I-94 interchange, and rebuild I-94 between Britain Avenue and I-196 in Benton Township. MDOT will be completing the three-year, $121.5 million investment to connect U.S. Gretchen Whitmer announced on Monday that multiple road rebuilding projects are expected to begin next week across the state, and one of them is right here in Michiana. But there was something really satisfying in finding the story twisting and turning in that way, but it feeling very well-motivated and not feeling gratuitous.”ĭespite the surprising parts of the show - the stabbing is by no means the only act of violence we see in the early episodes - Enoch thinks Foundation is still a hopeful story. I remember episode two and I went, ‘Wait, what’s going on here? ‘And I got to the end, and I was shocked. “Speaking of that episode, it’s brilliant. “In a sense, we’ve outlined a lot of the dynamics at play, and there he is trying to navigate those opposing forces,” Enoch said of Raych’s drastic action. It’s a startling turn for a character whose loyalties had, seemingly, only just begun to waver. That’s something the show gets into and provides a lot of dramatic fuel for the fire.”Īfter Raych learns from Gaal that Hari’s endtimes theory might have some key pieces missing, he stabs his father figure, then puts Gaal in a cryosleep-enabled escape pod before sending her off to parts unknown. There is that professional element, but probably more substantially, more importantly, you have that father-son parental dynamic. There’s a very, very strong relationship there that is not just professional. “I think one of the key things in that respect as it pertains to the bit of time that we’re dealing with in the show is the relationship between Raych and Hari. “All the stuff in the text is a starting point, so you kind of dive into it to see what works, what doesn’t, and then hopefully you’re in a position to sort of make sense of the words and the actions of the character,” Enoch told Gizmodo over video chat recently. While the Raych we meet in the series is a bit different than the book version - he’s still the adopted son of genius mathematician Hari Seldon (Jared Harris), though certain other details are changed - Enoch was still able to draw upon the source material while working on his portrayal. Gizmodo got a chance to speak to the Harry Potter and How to Get Away with Murder actor about Raych, particularly what the character goes through that brings him to a breaking point. For actor Alfred Enoch, who plays Raych Seldon, episode two, “Preparing to Live,” was particularly monumental. Have you been watching Foundation? Other than that, this is the closest to a warm bubble bath that iOS games can deliver. There's nothing here that won't make you happy when you recognise it.Ĭontrols rely on virtual buttons that perform their job a little better than usual, and the only buzzkills are a tendency for visibility to take a hit when you're indoors in the gloom and murk, and the odd boss encounter that lasts longer than it should, delivering the occasional cheap death along the way. There's nothing here that isn't tried and tested and warmly inviting. Its inane story and placeholder characters should damage the whole undertaking, but, for my money, they actually go some way to making it feel even purer. There's no sense that Swordigo's trying to pass any of these ideas off as its own, of course: this is just an RPG about RPGs, a game built on established traditions and rituals. I haven't seen this chunky kind of bare-bones 3D since the likes of Pandemonium. There are dungeons filled with spike pits, swinging blades and bats, and there are nods to Zelda absolutely everywhere you look - in the hero's green tunic, in the reference-riddled dialogue, and even in that little ringtone of positive reinforcement that greets you whenever you open a chest or unlock a door. They're fun enough in their own right, but they work most appealingly as pace-setters: they feel less like upgrades and more like the simple beats that keep you bouncing down the track from one 2D environment to the next. Levelling in Swordigo sees you picking between more health, more mana or stronger attacks, and every now and then you'll get to buy a new item back at the shop, or learn a new spell - a lightning blast, perhaps, or maybe the ability to conjure a fizzy little bomb. Dash around, leap from one platform to the next, engage in the odd block puzzle, and hack your way through all manner of storybook beasties. The village is threatened, your mentor's taken one for the team, and only you can save the world: it's a straightforward setup and it draws you into a straightforward adventure. It keeps you smiling, though, with a guileless and wonderfully primitive PS1-era art style, and real-time combat that crunches along in a blizzard of simple swipe attacks and the odd burst of magic. Swordigo's so traditional, in fact, that if it was any less cheery it might be a little boring. Even at the genre's simplest - as with Swordigo, for example, which is simplicity itself - they offer the warm reassurance that often lurks within a familiar structure, and the series of tidy little pleasures that come with levelling up, unlocking a few new tricks, and opening all those gleaming treasure chests.īosses can send you into a floaty knockback, which is a little annoying. If there's a better kind of comfort game than an RPG, I haven't found it. Each and every Task List has a built-in view called Calendar. In addition to the GEN3 semi-solid-state Li-S cells, we continue to progress our R&D on full-solid-state electrolytes in a co-funded project within the ARC Research Hub for Safe and Reliable Energy at Deakin where we jointly aim to create a full-solid-state Li-S battery. Based on growth forecasts for the drone and eAviation markets by international research organisations IDTechEX 2,3 and Precedence Research 4, we estimate that the combined eAviation and drone battery market will exceed A$48 billion per year by 2035. These are sectors in which the company has already established collaboration partners. Based on inquiries to date we anticipate this will be of significant commercial interest to high value partners in sectors such as drones and eAviation. Our development team is currently working to develop the cell cycle testing and characterisation results to produce an industry standard datasheet on the new 20-layer cells. In practical terms this means that our cells are now the same physical size as existing Li-ion batteries but half the weight. Compared to current Li-ion cells this is nearly double the gravimetric energy density and comparable for volumetric energy density 1. The new GEN3 cells are currently demonstrating a gravimetric energy density in our laboratories of over 400 Wh/kg, and a volumetric energy density of 540 Wh/l. It offers the potential to significantly reduce the physical size of the battery packs needed for the same energy stored, or conversely to significantly increase the energy stored in a given space compared to our existing GEN2 lithium sulfur cells. In addition to high gravimetric energy density, which delivers a lighter weight battery, the volumetric energy density (the energy stored for a given cell volume) is also considered important by our target industries. enhanced safety with the use of a low flammability electrolyte.higher gravimetric energy density through our optimised cathode material composition and.a significant improvement in volumetric energy density as a result of a lower porosity cathode material.Key benefits of the GEN3 Li-S Energy battery system over our second-generation (GEN2) lithium sulfur cells include: Utilising Li-S’ patent protected Li-nanomesh technology, the cells also incorporate Boron Nitride Nanotubes (BNNTs) into the cell construction to reduce dendrite growth to further improve safety and cycle life. The new 20-layer cells are built using a low-flammability electrolyte, which we believe will make them safer than traditional lithium sulfur and lithium-ion cells that utilise a higher flammability electrolyte. The cells have been produced in our semi-automated Phase 2 facility in Geelong, Victoria with test cell production capacity anticipated later in the year when our new Phase 3 facility is completed. |
